Elective Rotations Programme – Johns Hopkins University

The Elective Rotations programme at Johns Hopkins University offers students enrolled in the Medicine and Surgery degree programme the opportunity to apply for a 1-month curricular internship at Johns Hopkins. 


Eligibility:
This programme is designed for students in the 6th year of the master’s degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery seeking clinical practice experience in their final year.

Step 1: JHU Application

Interested students will be requested to apply through the Visiting Medical Students application portal. Students are allowed to submit 3 applications within the portal with 3 elective choices (either different specialties, different block dates, or a combination of the two).

Please note that the final selection will be made by Johns Hopkins University. Cattolica cannot guarantee final acceptance by the host institution.

Students will receive an email directly from JHU once a decision has been made

 

Step 2: Cattolica Application

Complete your online application available via your personal iCatt page under Services and opportunities > International mobility > Mobility calls > then in the drop-down menu select Exchange Programmes > Electives Network. Complete your application by uploading the acceptance email received from JHU. 

 

Step 3: Pay the non-refundable € 35 application fee.

 Participation in the program involves the following costs:

  • $500 application fee
  • $5,500 tuition fee per clinical elective rotation
  • Travel expenses, visa, accommodation, and meals

Fees are due on or before the start date of the elective. Instructions on how to pay the fees will be sent approximately 10 days prior to the elective start date. For more information visit the JHU website.

Scholarships of €1500 per month are available and will be reimbursed as expenses. Your programme application serves as your scholarship application; no separate application is required.

Students can apply for recognition of the program as Clinical/Research electives. The Academic Recognition form (Medicine e Surgery) form must be completed and submitted to the International Office at the program's conclusion.

Included in the programme is the activation of the Student Safety Package, which includes: 

  • Insurance cover valid for the entire length of the programme abroad
  • Activation of the Student Safety app, which helps manage emergencies

Note that Medical Malpractice / Professional Liability Insurance is not included, and selected students will bear this additional cost.
