Exchange (Erasmus+ & Overseas)

Scholarships and Costs

Note: The information provided here is purely indicative and non-binding. Solely the provisions set out in the individual mobility agreement signed with Cattolica International prior to departure will be legally binding.

1. Scholarships

To help offset living costs abroad, the University awards financial grants funded by Erasmus+ / Università Cattolica / MUR to selected students, with the aim of supporting as many participants as possible for the maximum feasible duration of their mobility period.

Timeline and Funding Availability:

The total funding allocation for the 2027/28 academic year will be officially communicated to Cattolica International in July 2027. Only after the final count of selected students across both semesters is completed will it be possible to determine whether available funds will cover all or only a portion of the mobilities.

"Zero-Grant" Mobility:

Should available financial resources prove insufficient, Cattolica International will establish allocation criteria and communicate them promptly. Consequently, some eligible students may receive Erasmus+ / Exchange participant status without receiving financial support ("zero-grant" status). This status also applies to students carrying out their coursework entirely online from Italy.

Tuition Fees:

During their period abroad, students remain regularly enrolled at Università Cattolica and are required to pay standard university tuition installments by the regular deadlines. The Exchange programme guarantees a full tuition fee waiver at the host partner institution.

Grant Disbursement:

Operational instructions and required forms will be sent directly to grant recipients. Payment is typically disbursed in two installments:

  1. An advance payment upon arrival at the host institution and commencement of the mobility period;
  2. The remaining balance upon return, subject to the timely submission of all required final documentation to Cattolica International.

2. Grant Amounts for Erasmus+ and Overseas (Reference A.Y. 2026/2027)

The Erasmus+ grant consists of a monthly allowance based on the cost of living in the destination country, plus a lump-sum travel grant calculated according to the distance traveled.

3. Overseas Programme Grants (Reference A.Y. 2026/2027)

For non-European destinations (Overseas), the grant is disbursed as a one-time lump sum based on the student's ISEE Universitario (equivalent economic indicator):

  • ISEE Universitario ≤ € 30,000.00: € 1,800.00
  • ISEE Universitario > € 30,000.00: € 1,500.00

4. Student Costs and Stacking Conditions

Covered and Out-of-Pocket Expenses:

The student remains personally responsible for any travel costs exceeding the grant allowance, room and board, study materials, supplementary health insurance, entry visas, and any mandatory administrative fees charged directly by the host institution.

Non-Combinable Grants:

The Erasmus+ grant cannot be combined with other European Union funding schemes for the same mobility period (e.g., Erasmus+ Traineeship, Erasmus Mundus), nor with university-funded grants designated for thesis research or internships abroad.

Supplementary Funding and Specific Destinations:
  • EduCatt Grants: Beneficiaries may apply to EduCatt for a dedicated top-up grant to support international mobility.

  • Students with Disabilities or Special Needs: Additional dedicated financial support can be arranged in coordination with Cattolica International.

  • Destinations in the UK and Switzerland: As these destinations operate under specific institutional agreements outside the standard Erasmus+ framework, precise financial terms and conditions will be provided in a dedicated communication

5. Required Documentation

By way of example, the following documents are required to complete administrative processing and release grant payments:

  • Online Learning Agreement (OLA): Approved and signed by all parties prior to departure (mandatory for Erasmus+ destinations).

  • Certificate of Attendance (Certificate of Arrival / Departure): Issued by the host institution specifying the official start and end dates of the study period.

  • Valid ISEE Universitario Certification: Required for the assessment of income-based funding components.

  • Proof of Expenses: Receipts and payment confirmations for accommodation, travel tickets (flight/train itineraries and boarding passes), and incidental costs (must be kept for the entire duration of the programme).

Prestito d'onore (student loan)

The BPER – Istituto Toniolo student loan supports Università Cattolica students wishing to participate in prestigious international programmes. The loan may cover some or all of the costs involved, including tuition fees at the host university, travel expenses and accommodation costs: find out more.

Erasmus+ study mobility at Università Cattolica takes place via the Exchange programme.

European Commission regulations allow students to benefit from Erasmus+ study mobility status for up to a maximum of 12 months per study cycle, or up to 24 months for single-cycle integrated degree programmes (Corsi di Laurea a Ciclo Unico). Consequently, students may participate in an Erasmus+ mobility period during their Master's degree even if they have already completed one during their undergraduate studies, or undertake a second mobility period across their 5- or 6-year single-cycle programme. The same maximum duration limit applies to Overseas destinations or when combining an Erasmus+ and an Overseas semester.

The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) establishes the overarching quality framework for European and international cooperation activities that a higher education institution may carry out under the Erasmus+ programme. Every higher education institution based in an Erasmus+ programme country wishing to offer study mobility or collaborative projects must hold an approved ECHE.

To be awarded the ECHE, institutions submit a formal application to the European Commission, committing to the core principles of the programme and outlining their institutional internationalization strategy within the Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS).

Below are the official ECHE and EPS documents for Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, valid for the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 programme period:
