FAQ

  • If I have already taken the internal Cattolica International test for the Exchange programme or for another programme, do I have to do it again to apply for a Summer Programme?
No, you don’t need to take the test again so long as you did it from May 2022 onwards.

  • If I’m attending a degree course delivered in English, do I still have to show proof of my language level?
No. You can apply for most of the Summer Programmes without language certification or the Cattolica International test if you are enrolled on a Cattolica degree programme delivered in English. You will be assigned a B2 level for the study grant ranking. If you think your level is higher than this you can either take the Cattolica International test or submit a language certificate considered valid by the destination university. Harvard University have different requirements: neither the Cattolica internal test nor being enrolled on an English-taught degree programme is accepted. Check the destination page or the certification you will need.

  • I am a Language Sciences student. Do I still have to demonstrate my language level?
Yes. You will need to submit a language certicate (at least the minimum grade of one of those accepted by the destination university) or take the Cattolica International test.

  • Do I have to certify my language level even if I have taken an English language exam as part of my university studies?
Yes, you have to submit one of the certificates accepted by the international destination university (with a suitable score) or take the Cattolica International internal test. The list of accepted language certificates can be found in the details for each destination.

  • What is the Cattolica International English test?
    • Part 1: Oral test via Zoom/Teams (10-15 minutes)
      Speaking
      Vocabulary and lexical structure
      Pronunciation

Followed by Part 2 to be done within 24 hours of Part 1

    • Part 2: Online adaptive test (maximum of 80 minutes)
      Listening
      Grammar
      Use of English

  • If I don’t have a passport yet, can I apply for a Summer Programme?
Yes, you can apply for the programme via the International Office even if you don’t have a passport, but you must have one in time to enrol at the destination university and you will also need it to apply for a visa if one is needed.

  • I am interested in various programmes but I have not decided which one I’d like to join yet. Can I submit applications for more than one Summer Programme?
Yes, you can apply for more than one programme, but  a separate application fee is payable for each application you submit. Application fees are non-refundable.

  • Is a ranking used for the Summer Programmes?
There is no ranking to take part in the programmes and there is no specific maximum or minimum number of participants unless this is stated in the programme information.
However, a ranking is drawn up to award scholarships, since there is a limited number available for each destination. The ranking is based on academic merit (grade point average, degree result if available and English language level). The formulas used to calculate scores for the ranking can be found here.

  • When will we know if we have been awarded a scholarship?
A week after the closing date of the call for applications you will be notified on the outcome of the awarding of scholarships. You will then be asked to confirm that you wish to take part in the programme and to pay a programme fee.

  • Is it compulsory to ask for credits to be recognised?
No, this is optional and it is up to each student to decide. You can take part in a Summer Programme even if you do not ask for credits to be given for the programme.

  • How and when can I apply for credits to be given for the programme?
You must follow the procedure set out by your faculty. Requests for credits to be given for the programme must be submitted at the same time as you apply for the programme.

  • Can credits be given for an examination taken abroad when the credits are not the same as Università Cattolica credits?
Yes. There is no overall correspondence between credits in other countries and Italian university credits, so in order to evaluate equivalence for credits to be given for courses abroad, your faculty will look in detail at the number of lesson hours and course content.

  • I can’t see the detailed programme of the course abroad on the website. How do I find it?
Detailed content of some programmes may not be published if the academic staff of the destination university haven’t yet provided it. However, it may be published after applications open. You can email us about the programme you are interested in and we will check with the partner university whether the course content is available.
  • Can I send submit more than one programme plan?
Yes. However, we recommend that you submit a comprehensive request regarding one destination and wait for the outcome before going ahead with requests for other destinations.

  • How long does it take to get a response from the academic staff?
You will generally get a response within two working weeks.

  • Why is accommodation not included for some destinations?
Some universities have a privacy policy which does not allow for third parties to book accommodation. In most cases it isn’t compulsory to use accommodation on campus. However, if you do choose accommodation on campus it is often possible to purchase a meal plan for the duration of your stay.

  • If accommodation is not included, do I have to find my own accommodation?
No. When applications close and you have been admitted to a course abroad, you will receive instructions on how to book accommodation if you choose to use accommodation on campus.

  • The week after the call for applications closes the International Office deals with all completed applications and assigns the available scholarships. You will be asked by email to confirm that you will take part in the programme. You will also be asked to pay a programme fee.

  • When you have sent confirmation of your participation, you will be invited to the first Orientation Session, where the International Office will assist you while you complete the registration procedure for the courses you have chosen. At this point your choice of courses abroad becomes final.

  • Payment methods and programme dates are shown on the destination page.

  • In the next few weeks (roughly 3-4 weeks from the applications closing) you will receive notification from the university abroad that your ID number will be issued (the equivalent to matriculation). Timing will depend on the destination university.

  • Once you have received this official notification of admission, you can go ahead with applying for your visa and booking your accommodation (if necessary for the destination).

  • Other pre-departure requirements.

  • Flight purchase: you should purchase your ticket yourself when you have received confirmation of admission to the courses and when your visa has been issued (if required).
