International Thesis

The International Thesis programme offers scholarships to graduating students on Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, from any faculty, who have themselves found an opportunity to undertake international research for the writing of their thesis.

The programme is for graduating Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students from all faculties and from all campuses.

Before you can apply, you must have a receipt of submission of your thesis topic. A screenshot or an email confirming submission will also be accepted.

Note that there is a specific application process for Master’s Degree graduating students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, which makes it possible for them to have their final exam credits to be accepted as credits for international study.

There is no predefined list of destinations e.g. universities, libraries, research institutes, non-profit organisations, companies and so on.

It is your responsibility:

  • to inform your Università Cattolica supervising professor and ask for approval of your international thesis project
  • to check that a host institution is prepared to host students within the framework of a research for thesis programme. You must check requirements in place for the institution itself and for the county e.g. visas etc..

The programme has no fixed dates: you can decide your own dates, subject to agreement with your supervisor at Università Cattolica and the host institution. You must complete your application at least one month prior to the scheduled start date.

Study grants are available to the amount of €300 per month, payable for a period of between 1 and 3 months, while funds last.

To be eligible for a grant, the final month of the programme must be of at least 21 days. If the period is of just one month, it must be of at least 21 days.

Study grants:

  • will be assigned to all participants who submit the required documentation, while funds last;
  • are provided in the form of a reimbursement and therefore proof of expenditure must be uploaded;
  • cannot be combined with any other funding provided by the Università Cattolica International Office, nor be applied for your stay abroad through other programmes.

Study grants are paid as follows*:

  • the first 50% of the amount will be paid about a month after departure; on arrival, you must upload travel receipts (plane/train/bus etc.) proving expenses;
  • the remaining 50% will be paid upon return to Italy, only and exclusively after submission of a short final report on the activity carried out during your time abroad. The balance of the payment of the grant will be settled only after you have uploaded digital copies of receipts of expenses to the application portal.

Grants will only be paid only if complete documentation has been submitted, and then only after the International Office has confirmed that funds are available.

PLEASE NOTE: If you undertake just one month of the programme the grant will be paid in one single amount upon return to Italy.

Students taking part in the programme as a first experience abroad will receive 1 extracurricular credit for International Activity upon return from the programme.

Master’s Degree programme in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences: graduating students who spend at least three months abroad and have submitted the relevant documentation will have their final exam credits recorded in their study plan as credits for international study.

All participants are required to take out "Student Safety Package” insurance cover for the total duration of the programme abroad. The insurance cover costs €90 and includes a Safety App, an application for dealing with emergency situations. Payment must be made at the time of application.
