The AFEPA Programme is offered by a consortium of 4 European partner universities (the University of Bonn, Germany, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden, the Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-neuve, Belgium, and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Cremona, Italy). Participating students spend one year each at two of the European partner universities, obtaining a double degree by the two Universities the students attend.

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences gives participants of the Master of Science in Agricultural and Food Economics the opportunity to undertake the second year of their course at one of the host universities of the AFEPA Consortium.

Students will receive Laurea Magistrale from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and one of the following degrees at the end of the Programme:

The mobility will take place throughout the second year of the Laurea Magistrale.

Departures are scheduled in Summer 2024 for the academic year 2024/2025.

There are 6 places for the academic year 2024/2025:

  • 2 at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Louvain, Belgium),
  • 2 at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden) and
  • 2 at the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms Universitaet Bonn (Bonn, Germany).

The Master’s programme in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) is a two-year programme of 120 ECTS credits.

The academic programme consists of:

  • a number of compulsory courses for 30 ECTS credits
  • a number of optional courses for 54 ECTS credits that can form a major area for a minimum of 30 ECTS
  • two short summer schools for 6 ECTS credits in total
  • a thesis for 30 ECTS credits.

Students are associated with at least two of the four Partners participating in the AFEPA Consortium.

In general, students spend:

  • their first academic year in one of the four Partner institutions (SLU, UBonn, UCL, or Università Cattolica) which offer the core courses in microeconomics and quantitative methods;
  • their second academic year in one of the three other Partner institutions (SLU, UBonn, UCL, or Università Cattolica).

The language of instruction and examination is English for all the courses at SLU, UBonn and Università Cattolica, and most of the courses at UCL.

Students who apply for the AFEPA Programme are required to:

  • Have acquired a Bachelor degree or an equivalent academic degree of minimum three years of undergraduate study corresponding to 180 ECTS credits;
  • Have a weighted average mark of at least 27/30 corresponding to a grade B;
  • A minimum of 24 ECTS credits in economics gained in the Bachelor's degree - including one course in microeconomics and one course in mathematics / statistics. An additional introduction to agricultural, environmental or food sciences is recommended;
  • Language proficiency (with certificates not older than 2 years - i.e. March 2022):
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 90 on the Internet-based Test (IBT), with a minimum of 20 on the written part.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): an overall band IELTS score of at least 6.5, and no section below 5.5.
    • A test deemed equivalent by the AFEPA Management Board (if you want to submit test results other than from the TOEFL or IELTS tests please obtain our confirmation of that particular test prior to sending your application package).

Note: Applicants from English speaking countries must provide an official letter from their university from which they graduated attesting that English is the media of instruction. It is upon the consortium’s decision whether an English Test as described above must be submitted additionally.
 

Students involved in the AFEPA Master’s programme will benefit from the standard Erasmus Exchange scholarships for the period they spend abroad. Scholarships will be confirmed during the month of July 2024.
Students will get information about the procedure to follow in order to apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship.

The following documents could be requested:

  • ISEE Universitario
  • Receipts of payment (e.g. accommodation, transports, flights,ecc.)
  • Online Learning Agreement, duly filled in with courses attended
  • Statement Period of Study, duly filled in (instructions will be provided)

Students are expected to pay a general administrative fee to the Coordinating Institution for managing and coordinating their involvement in the AFEPA Master’s programme. This general administrative fee amounts to 300 Euros but may be adjusted based on the development of management and coordination costs as well as the future development of the AFEPA Master’s programme.

This general administrative fee is indicated in the Student Agreement signed by the Coordinating Institution and the student.

Please note that the UCL annual regular tuition fee is €835. This information can be found on the UCL website

Selected students will benefit from the health insurance provided by AXA in collaboration with Cattolica. In addition, the “Student Safety Package” will be activated, and the students will be able to download the "Safety Check Students” app for the geolocation and instant communications in case of emergency. More information about the activation procedure will be provided to the selected students.

A board appointed by the Faculty will select the students according to merit and the basis of the study curriculum. The ranking list will be based on:

  • The weighted average mark (weight 45%)
  • CFU reached (weight 45%)
  • Academic motivation (weight 10%)

Students will be invited before March 18 for a motivational interview with the appointed board.
