Nakuru, in the heart of Kenya’s Rift Valley, is a city where breathtaking nature meets the most authentic African life. Surrounded by the famous Lake Nakuru and spectacular volcanic landscapes, it offers a unique balance between urban energy and the wild beauty of the savannah. Here, volunteers can immerse themselves in local daily life — among lively markets, traditional music, and local dishes — while contributing to meaningful community projects. From hiking the Menengai Crater to spotting flamingos and rhinos in Lake Nakuru National Park, every day is an authentic and unforgettable experience, illuminated by the golden sunsets over the Rift Valley.

Your accommodations in Nakuru include four units, each with three spacious bedrooms furnished with comfortable double beds, accommodating 2 to 4 people per room. Cleanliness and hygiene are a priority, and each room has its own bathroom and toilet.

Meals are provided, with three meals on weekdays and two on weekends, primarily featuring Kenyan cuisine. You will enjoy a variety of vegetables, potatoes, eggs, bread, and pancakes (chapati), accompanied by fresh fruits such as oranges, bananas, and avocados.

Rooms are cleaned on weekends, and participants are expected to take responsibility for cleaning up after themselves and keeping the accommodations tidy and organized

There are 100 scholarships of €450 available.

The costs vary depending on the duration of the volunteer project and are divided as follows:

  1. Application fee: €35 non-refundable – required at the time of application to the programme
  2. Deposit fee: €200 required after the closing of applications to confirm your intention to proceed with enrolment

Available projects

Projects in collaboration with schools and child development centers in rural Kenya, focused on supporting English and other subject teaching to help children and young students improve their language skills, confidence, and academic performance.

Activities include:

  • Assisting local teachers in lessons using creative and interactive teaching methods;
  • Organizing educational and recreational activities, such as games, songs, storytelling, sports, arts, and crafts, as well as promoting daily hygiene routines;
  • Running day-camp style programs during school breaks, combining English lessons with sports and hands-on activities.

Volunteers are supported by local coordinators and a 24-hour assistance system, ensuring a safe and enriching experience. By contributing to children’s education and personal development, participants make a meaningful impact on the community while gaining valuable insight into Kenyan culture and the local education system.

Projects focused on environmental protection and reforestation, carried out in partnership with local communities working to preserve the natural environment for people, flora, and fauna.

Activities include:

  • Tree planting and nursery management, promoting reforestation and ecosystem restoration;
  • Developing sustainable vegetable gardens and environmental education programs, encouraging responsible agricultural and self-sufficient practices;
  • Raising awareness about recycling, sustainable gardening, and the importance of forest conservation.

Volunteers work alongside community members who are taking active ownership of their land and future, helping restore forest ecosystems and build climate resilience. The project offers a meaningful, hands-on conservation experience that allows participants to gain practical environmental skills while witnessing the positive impact of local sustainability initiatives.

Projects focused on wildlife and ecosystem conservation at a local conservancy in the Nakuru region. Volunteers support the protection of endangered species such as Rothschild giraffes, Colobus monkeys, and various bird species, combining fieldwork with opportunities to explore Kenya’s landscapes and learn about local environmental efforts.

Activities include:

  • Tracking and observing endangered species, particularly Rothschild giraffes;
  • Habitat restoration through tree planting and nursery management;
  • Participating in community-based sustainability projects, such as planting indigenous trees in the Dundori Forest Reserve and at Menengai Crater, and assisting women-led tree nurseries.

This program provides practical experience in wildlife conservation and ecological restoration, allowing volunteers to contribute directly to the protection of Kenya’s biodiversity while gaining a deeper understanding of the connection between nature and local communities.

Projects focused on supporting women-led self-help groups in the Nakuru area, aiming to promote self-sufficiency and personal and professional growth among underprivileged women.

Activities include:

  • Organizing workshops and interactive lessons on topics such as personal development, financial literacy, digital skills, entrepreneurship, reproductive health, and leadership;
  • Providing hands-on training and group activities to strengthen confidence, independence, and economic empowerment;
  • Promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices, encouraging participants to play an active role in improving their communities.

Through collaboration, encouragement, and cultural exchange, volunteers help women gain the tools and confidence to transform their lives and uplift their families — becoming part of a movement that fosters women’s empowerment and long-lasting community change.
