The programme offers students enrolled in the first year of the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery the possibility of obtaining a Triple Degree:

  • Laurea Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia (Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery) from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
  • Medical Degree from Thomas Jefferson University – Sidney Kimmel Medical College
  • Master of Science in Health Care Policy with a concentration in International Health and Medicine from Jefferson College of Population Health

Students who undertake the Triple Degree study programme will divide their studies between Università Cattolica and Thomas Jefferson University (Sidney Kimmel Medical College and College of Population Health), as described below.

Students in this programme who do not complete the SKMC MD, but successfully complete the Cattolica MD, along with the listed courses in JCPH, will earn an MD/MS.

* Students in this programme who do not complete the Cattolica MD or SKMC MD, can opt for an APC (Advanced Practice Certificate) in International Health & Medicine by completing these four courses.

  • A maximum of 20 students can be accepted on the Summer Session I
  • A maximum of 20 students can be accepted on the Summer Session II
  • A maximum of 6 students can be accepted on the Triple Degree study programme

The Double Degree programme is open to students who are enrolled for the first time in Year 1 of the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Candidates must submit their application and upload a copy of English language proficiency certificate, which was submitted for enrolment to the degree programme in Medicine and Surgery, through Icatt personal webpage and pay the application fee of € 35 by March 17, 2023.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

For the Summer Session I applications will be evaluated (by the end of March) with reference to the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of the Basic Sciences and/or Biomedical Sciences I examinations
  • Score obtained in the admission test to the Medicine and Surgery Degree Programme.

For the Summer Session II applications will be evaluated (by the end of March) with reference to the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of all Year 1 Cattolica examinations with an overall GPA (marks and credits) above the 50th percentile of grades distribution of their cohort.
  • Summer session I minimum overall GPA of 3.5.
  • A ranking will be compiled based on the overall GPA (marks and credits).
  • An interview with the Selection Panel may be required.

For the Triple Degree programme students will be evaluated and conditionally accepted (by the end of April of Year 3 at Cattolica) with reference to the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of all Year 1 and 2 Cattolica examinations with an overall GPA (marks and credits) above the 50th percentile of grades distribution of their cohort (mini mum 24/30).
  • Successful completion of mid-term session of Year 3 by April of the 3rd year with an overall GPA (marks and credits) above the 50th percentile of grades distribution of their cohort (minimum 24/30).
  • Summer session I - II minimum overall GPA of 3.5.
  • Positive evaluation and final approval by the SKMC Admission Committee.

In order to be officially admitted to the Triple Degree programme, conditionally accepted students have to meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of all Year 3 Cattolica examinations during the Summer exam session of the third year (June-July) maintaining a minimum GPA of 24/30.

Students will be advised of definitive costs and means of payment in good time before departure.

The costs below may be subject to change as they are updated to the current academic year.

  • Cattolica Tuition fee for year 1, 2, and 3
  • Total TJU tuition for Summer 1 (3 UG Credits + 6 GR Credits): $1815 + $4530 *
  • Total TJU tuition for Summer 2 (3 UG Credits + 6 GR Credits): $1815 + $4530 *
  • Cattolica Study abroad Fee € 11.000/Y for year 4, 5 and 6
  • Total TJU tuition and fees of the Double Degree Programme per year (SKMC MD & MS Health Policy focusing on International Health and Medicine): $45,674/ Year **

* Thomas Jefferson University Summer session I and II tuition fees are charged on a per-credit basis.

  • Undergraduate (UG) courses - $605/ credit
    Compulsory courses: Writing Seminar 1 (Year 1) & Writing Seminar 2 (Year 2). Each are 3 credits for a total undergraduate of 6 credits
  • Graduate (GR) courses (Master of Science in Health Policy focusing on International Health & Medicine) - $755/credit
    Compulsory courses: minimum 2 per Summer

NB: Writing Seminar 1 & 2 may be waived for who have earned these credits in equivalent courses from another College / University.

** The tuition for SKMC and the JCPH Master’s programme has been discounted for students enrolled in the Triple Degree programme.

Students undertaking the Triple Degree study programme will have to bear the additional cost of their study at Thomas Jefferson University, e.g. travel, food and accommodation, study materials, health insurance and visas.

Selected students in Year 4-5-6 will benefit from tuition waiver of Cattolica Tuition fee for the period they spend abroad.

All students will benefit from a € 1.500 scholarship that will be issued after the beginning of the courses at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.

No tuition refunds will be made for students who withdraw from SKMC or JCPH Master’s Programme after a semester has begun.

  • Programme students who have been accepted into the pro- gramme may elect to voluntarily withdraw from participation in the program at any time during the Programme and elect to proceed in either the Cattolica degree programme or the SKMC MD programme. Students must notify in writing the International Office at Cattolica and the Students Affairs Office at SKMC.
  • Students who withdraw from Cattolica M&S once admitted to SKMC will be required to pay the normal (without discount) SKMC tuition and fees for the 4-year SKMC curriculum.
  • Students who withdraw from Cattolica M&S and remain with SKMC will be required to repay the subsidies for all completed semesters at SKMC and the JCPH.
  • Students who withdraw from SKMC and wish to continue in the JCPH Master’s Programme while at Cattolica M&S will lose the JCPH discounted tuition, and must take three additional courses to earn the Masters degree.
  • Students who withdraw from Cattolica M&S and wish to continue the JCPH Master’s programme while at SKMC will lose the JCPH discounted tuition, and must take three additional courses to earn the Masters degree.
  • Students who withdraw from SKMC and wish to continue in the Cattolica M&S degree will not be required to repay the subsidies for all completed semesters.
  • Students who withdraw from both Cattolica M&S and SKMC will not be required to repay the subsidies for all completed semesters.

All students participating in an official Cattolica International programme must accept the “Student Safety Package” provisions by downloading the “Safety Check Students” app for the geo- location and instant messaging features to be used exclusively in the event of an emergency. The “Student Safety Package” also includes health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the programme.
