NATO SHAPE – Stage presso SHAPE Headquarter (PSA)

This internship programme, offered in collaboration with NATO SHAPE - Political and Security Analysis Group (PSA) - Centre for comprehensive Crisis and Operations Management, provides the opportunity ofundertaking a four-month internship at the SHAPE Headquarters in Mons, Belgium. 

The programme is aimed at Cattolica students possessing nationality of a member NATO state who are currently enrolled on one of the following Master’s Degree programmes in the Faculty of Political Sciences, UC Milan Campus:

  • Politiche Europee ed internazionali
  • Politiche per la cooperazione internazionale allo Sviluppo

The internship programme will select 2 students. 

The following certification are accepted, obtained no earlier than May 2022:

  • Cambridge First, grade C or above
  • TOEFL, minimum 65
  • IELTS, minimum 5.5
  • Duolingo, minimum 85
  • Cattolica International English test already taken for other programmes abroad, minimum B2.1 level

NB: students without a certificate can take the Cattolica International internal English test. The test takes place in online mode and must be taken no later than 1st December 2023 and demonstrate a minimum level of B2.1. 

The four-month internship periods is September - December 2024.

The exact start date of the internship will depend on when a security certificate is issued. SHAPE will request this directly from the national bodies. 
 

The application deadline is 30 November 2023.

  1. Complete your online application: select UCSC Network and then NATO SHAPE 2° bando 2024 – Stage presso SHAPE Headquarter (PSA). Upload the following attachments in English. 
    1. CV: this is compulsory
    2. Letter of motivation: compulsory
    3. Language certification

NOTE: Demonstrate your level of English proficiency either by uploading a valid language certification or by taking the Cattolica International English Test. If you are going to take the Cattolica International test you will be able to choose a test date while you are applying online. The test will take place in online mode. You can only take the test once. 

Participants will be selected on the basis of their academic curriculum and English level. After the closing of the registration on November 30, applicants may be called for a selection interview conducted in Italian. Following the close of the call, applicants will be provided with more information on how the interview will be conducted. 

Participating students will be responsible for costs of travel, food and accommodation.
Scholarships partially covering costs are also available for students selected for the programme. 

The amount of the scholarships will vary depending on participating students’ ISEEU data (nuclear family economic indicators): 

  • €900 for students who do not submit their ISEEU data or if their ISEEU data shows an income of over €30,000;
  • €1,400 if ISEEU data shows income of €30,000 or below;
  • In addition to these amounts, students are also eligible for a payment of €50 as a "green travel refund" for outward and/or return travel if sustainable means of transport are used i.e. train, bus, bicycle, or carpooling between two or more students.

More information on amounts and methods of disbursement will be provided after the call for applications closes.

All students who undertake the programme as their first experience abroad will be awarded 1 extra credit point for International Activity upon return from the programme.

In addition, students can also check with the internship tutors of their faculty as to whether the programme can be accepted as a curricular internship. Internship tutor contact information is available online on faculty pages.

Any other possibility of the programme being accepted for credits must be discussed in advance with the academic officers responsible of this in your faculty.

All students who take part in an international programme promoted by Cattolica International must take out the "Student Safety Package" which includes insurance cover and an emergency app. The cost for this is €80. 

In addition, all students on Cattolica International mobility programmes are required to:

  • keep up to date on the international situation via official channels of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in particular refer to the Safe Travel site for information about any procedure for entry into the country where the programme will be carried out (required documents, visa...)
  • register on the Farnesina website.
