Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, through the Faculty of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences at SMEA (Alta Scuola in Economia Agro-Alimentare), gives participants of the Master of Science in Agricultural and Food Economics the opportunity to undertake the second year of their course at Wageningen University (The Netherlands).

Selected students, at the end of the Sustainable Agri-Food Economics and Business (SAFEB) programme, will receive a double qualification of:

  • Master’s Degree in Agricultural and Food Economics from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore;
  • Master’s Degree in Management, Economics and Consumer Studies (MME) from Wageningen University.

The aim of the Double Degree is to pursue the objectives of the two courses, which are both targeted to prepare professionals for the agricultural and food sector, giving students a stronger international background. The programme covers two years of study, with the first year undertaken at Università Cattolica and the second year at Wageningen University.

Departures are scheduled approximately in August 2026 of the academic year 2026/2027, and the program will end with the graduation at Università Cattolica.

To obtain the Master’s Degree from both institutions, students must complete the program of exams set out in the Agreement.

To apply, you need to register and pay a €35.00 application fee (non-refundable).

Students pursuing the Double Degree programme at Wageningen University will have a dedicated Study Plan.

Students may take any of the following 5 specialisations of the MME program, provided that the study coordinator in Wageningen approves the student study programme:

  • Sustainable Business and Innovation
  • Supply Chain Analytics
  • Consumer Studies
  • Economics of Sustainability
  • Governance of Sustainability Transformations
  • Entrepreneurship (this includes a six-month internship)

In order to complete their programme, Cattolica students have to spend at least 14 months at WU. Please note that for the specialisations of Consumer Studies, Governance of Sustainability Transformations and Entrepreneurship, the completion would typically not fit within 14 months.

Students can consult the academic advisor (Prof. Paolo Sckokai/Prof. Claudio Soregaroli) regarding their choice of courses at the partner university abroad and after that, they should share the approved Study Plan with the International Office.

A jointly supervised thesis of 30 ECTS has to be performed in order to obtain degrees at both partner Universities. Students participating in the programme write their Final Thesis with a main supervisor from Wageningen University and a supervisor at Cattolica. The research areas have to be agreed with the local study coordinator. The defense takes place at Wageningen University.

Anyway, students will have to follow the Cattolica procedures to register for a Cattolica official Graduation Day (i.e. in terms of steps, deadlines and fees).

Double Degree students will have to enroll directly to the Master of Science in Management, Economics and Consumer Studies. Consequently, students will have to pay tuitions at both universities.

The tuition fee at WUR is about €2.700 per year for students with EU citizenship, plus an additional monthly fee for each month after the first year at Wageningen. Please refer to the information online. Expenses for insurance, travel, and living costs in the host country will be the responsibility of the participating student.

Cattolica International will award 3 scholarships of €1.500 to selected students.

In addition to Cattolica International scholarships awarded to selected students, it will be possible to apply for a scholarship worth €2.000 in honour of Dr Donantonio De Falcis. More information can be found at this link.

Selected students will benefit from the health insurance provided by AXA in collaboration with Cattolica. In addition, the “Student Safety Package” will be activated, and the students will be able to download the Safety Check Students app for geolocation and instant communications in case of emergency. More information about the activation procedure will be provided to the selected students.

AXA insurance policy activation is compulsory for all Cattolica students doing an international experience.
