Graduate Programmes

To graduate, you need to follow a few steps.
Read the steps below and download the Tutorial

Student intending to graduate must:

  1. choose a topic, checking the requirements
  2. pay the expected contribution
  3. submit the application for admission to the final examination, verifying the curricular/temporal requirements
  4. deliver the final paper in the prescribed manner

The topic of the final examination, agreed with the professor, must be submitted via the dedicated function on the iCatt personal page (Online registrar > Final examination > Application for graduation), respecting deadlines and requirements.
If the date of the graduation session is changed, it does not have to be resubmitted.

In order to submit the dissertation topic approval form, you must comply with:

  • submission deadlines: at least 6 months before the session. Details in the calendar
  • curricular requirements: not foreseen

Please refer to the Faculty Guide for further details on the final examination.

A Master’s thesis is required to be experimental in nature and must therefore include a data analysis component. The data are typically collected—either directly or indirectly—by the student.

In order to apply for admission to the final examination, you must comply with:

  • submission deadline: at least 45 days before the session. Details in the calendar
  • curricular requirements: no more than 36 ECTS in debt (the final examination is not included in the count)

Students must agree with the supervisor on the definitive title in order to proceed with the application for admission to the final examination.

The dedicated function (Online registrar > Final examination > Application for graduation) involves the following steps:
  • filling in and forwarding the application to the professor for approval;
  • approval or refusal by the professor/lecturer;
  • payment of the graduation fee with Pago PA.

Any changes to the title of the final dissertation, approved by the professor, must be made at the time the application is completed. The title contained must therefore be definitive, as no further changes can be accepted.

The .pdf file of the paper must be sent to the professor via the iCatt personal page (Online secretariat - Final paper - Submit final paper). The professor may request a hard copy if necessary.

Instructions for uploading the paper: Loading of the Paper

The paper must be uploaded to the iCatt personal page no later than 10 days before the start date of the proclamation sessions (see calendar). The deadline for uploading the paper is not to be missed.

In the event that the professor appointed to chair the commission is unable to do it, as communicated close to the date of the exam, a substitute will be appointed to open the exam call on the scheduled date, avoiding postponement of the call.

In order to reduce the critical situations linked to the excessive proximity or overlap of the date of the end of the exam session (last call) with the date of the start of the graduation session, it will be possible for graduates to close their careers (understood as the recording of all exams) within 7 calendar days of the start of the graduation session, i.e. the time required to carry out the checks on the student's career. To this end, the examination calendar will be scheduled so that graduate students can take advantage of the profit exam calls as follows:

  • Students registered in the summer session (May-July): the first 2 out of 3 calls (or the first call out of 2, where applicable).
  • Students registered in the autumn session (August-November): first call in 2 (or the only call, where applicable).
  • Students registered in the special session (December-April): the first 3 out of 4 calls (or the two calls out of 3, where applicable).

The last call of each session may also be used if the examination is registered within 7 calendar days before the start of the graduation session.

Graduate students who fail to graduate in the call for which they have applied for admission to the final examination must notify through the personal iCatt page (Online registrar - Final Examination - Graduation Application - by clicking the "Revocation" button).

For a subsequent graduation session, a new application for admission to the final examination must be submitted with a €16 stamp duty and a receipt of payment of the Graduate Contribution.

Graduating students will receive the convocation exclusively via their iCatt personal page approximately 10 days before the scheduled graduation date ( Online Secretariat - Final Examination section).

The following criteria are applied when calculating the final examination mark:

For students enrolled up to and including A.Y. 2024/25

BASELINE CALCULATION

All marks from exams are added together, multiplied by the number of ECTS for each exam (a mark of 30 with honours is counted as 30).

Marks from ‘Theology’ examinations and extra-curricular courses are excluded from the calculation.

The total is divided by the total weight in ECTS of the courses considered (average out of 30).

The average out of 30 thus obtained is converted to a scale of 110 by multiplying the value obtained by 11 and dividing it by 3.

FINAL EXAMINATION MARK

0 to 4 points for the content of the dissertation and for the effort shown

0 to 2 points for the presentation of the dissertation

The Examination Board may award 1 additional point

UNIVERSITY CAREER
ADDITIONAL POINTS

<85: 0 points

85-95: 1 point

96-105: 2 points

>105: 3 points

An additional point is awarded if the student graduates on time

BONUS: INTERNATIONAL STUDY
EXPERIENCES

0 to 1 point

Students who enrolled before the A.Y. 2013/14 may contact the Student Services Centre to find out how the graduation average is calculated.

Students on the Double Degree Programme should contact the Student Services Centre at their relevant Campus for information on the graduation average
