Wenzhou Medical University – Summer Clinical programme

This programme offers medical students the opportunity to gain structured clinical exposure, research training, academic workshops, and cross-cultural experience at one of China’s leading medical universities.

The programme aims to:

  • provide structured exposure to clinical departments and hospital workflows;
  • introduce students to basic and translational research methodologies;
  • enhance students’ medical knowledge through seminars, case discussions and workshops;
  • facilitate international exchange and multicultural learning;
  • foster academic networking opportunities with WMU faculty;
  • provide participants with a WMU Internship Completion Certificate.

Participants may be placed in one of the following departments:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Paediatrics
  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics
  • Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Radiology

This programme is open to students enrolled in the clinical years of the Medicine and Surgery degree programme. It is not open to Chinese citizens. 

During the selection process, priority will be given to students enrolled in the 4th and 5th year of the Medicine and Surgery degree programme. Students in the 6th year will be considered only if places remain available.

Students enrolled in the Italian-taught Medicine and Surgery degree programme may also be considered if places remain unfilled.

 

Summer session
  • Programme dates: 19 July - 16 August 2026
  • Application deadline: 6 April 2026

 

Please note that selected students are required to complete an online application through the dedicated Wenzhou portal by 15 April 2026.

As part of the application, students must upload the following documents to the Wenzhou portal:

  • online application form;
  • CV/résumé;
  • copy of passport;
  • motivation letter (maximum 500 words);
  • student ID card or proof of enrolment;
  • transcript of records (optional but recommended).

Step 1 – Apply through Cattolica 

Complete the online application available through your personal iCatt page under:
Services and Opportunities → International Mobility → Mobility Calls → select “Wenzhou Medical University – Summer Clinical Programme”.

Upload the required document:

  • English language certificate (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent recommended).

 

Step 2: Application fee

Pay the non-refundable €35 application fee.

Applications will be evaluated based on the academic merit (exams taken with results recorded by the end of the call for applications).

 

Students are responsible for:
  • €100 Cattolica programme fee, which includes the Student Safety Package
  • Travel expenses
  • Visa costs
  • Meals

 

Wenzhou Medical University will cover the following costs:
  • Clerkship fee
  • Field trip fee
  • Accommodation

 

Scholarships of €500 per month are available and will be reimbursed as expenses.

The programme application will automatically be considered as an application for the scholarship; no separate application is required.

Students can apply for recognition of the programme as Clinical or Research electives. 

The academic recognition form must be completed and submitted to Cattolica International at the end of the programme.

The programme includes activation of the Student Safety Package, which provides:

  • Insurance cover valid for the entire duration of the programme abroad.
  • Activation of the Student Safety app, which helps to manage emergencies.

Please note that medical malpractice/professional liability insurance is not included, and selected students will be required to bear this additional cost.
