Università Cattolica offers students of the Faculty of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures - Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Linguistic Sciences – Business Language Expert Curriculum / Languages for Business the opportunity of gaining a double degree at the end of their studies, as follows: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences – Business Language Expert Curriculum / Languages for Business Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), College of Chinese Language

The programme includes an 8-week summer course in Chinese Language plus 2 years of academic studies at BLCU.

Students will depart on the programme in July 2025 and stay in Beijing for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 academic years.

An application fee of €35 is payable. This fee is non-refundable.

The double degree programme is offered to students currently enrolled on the 2nd year of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Linguistic Sciences – Business Language Expert Curriculum / Languages for Business.

To access the double degree programme path at BLCU you must have the following:

  • at least 110 credit points (Languages for Business curriculum – Milan Campus)
  • at least 120 credit points (Languages for Business curriculum – Brescia Campus)
  • minimum grade average of 23/30

Students admitted to the double degree programme will be matriculated onto the 2nd year of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Chinese Language at BLCU.

  • HSK 4: this certificate allows for access to the Chinese Language regular course (20 hours per week for 8 weeks) the summer immediately preceding the start of the academic year at BLCU
  • HSK 5: this certificate allows for direct admission to the academic year at BLCU.

The HSK certificates must be dated no earlier than two years before the closing date for application to the programme.

The following criteria will be taken into account in the assessment of applications for the ranking:

  • Grade average of exams passed up to and including the January-February 2025 exam session
  • Credit points accumulated up to and including the January-February 2025 exam session 
  • Language levels

Acceptance of students is subject to assessment by BLCU.

Students selected for the programme must also be officially enrolled in Università Cattolica while they are abroad (and they must comply with all UC deadlines related to tuition and university fees, study plans, graduation applications etc.).

Students are also required to be properly enrolled at Università Cattolica for their 4th year of studies (their 2nd year at BLCU) by enrolling as 3rd year repeating students.  

Students are required to liaise with the Ecclesiastical Assistant of their home campus to agree on a course of theology studies for the two years they will be studying in China. This will count as a Theology 3 exam, and will be delivered ad hoc. 

The study path undertaken at BLCU will be recognised by Università Cattolica: students are required to fill in a Program Plan at the beginning of each academic year abroad, in line with the instructions given in the double degree programme Study Plan of their home campus for the corresponding course year.

At the end of each academic year, BLCU will provide a Transcript of Records and any other relevant documentation. Students can then complete their Programme Plan and have exams they have taken abroad recognised. 

At the conclusion of their studies at BLCU, students wishing to continue their studies at Università Cattolica will have the following credit points recognised, in addition to their Bachelor’s Degree qualification:  

  • at least 41 credit points when enrolling on the Master’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences - International Management curriculum (students at Milan Campus)
  • at least 46 credit points when enrolling on the Master’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences - Management and International Economic Relations curriculum (students at Brescia Campus).

To obtain the double degree qualification, students must pass all the UCSC exams and all the BLCU exams listed in the double degree study plan and must produce a final written paper at the end of the two academic years at BLCU.

  • Gaining the qualification of Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
    Students must officially submit their graduation application in line with the timings set down by the Faculty. The final exam of the Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences can be taken after undertaking two courses at BLCU that require submitting written papers.
     
  • Gaining the qualification of Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language – Beijing Language and Culture University
    At the conclusion of the two academic years at BLCU, a further semester will be dedicated to writing a thesis (a written paper of 5,000 Chinese characters). The thesis cannot be discussed before the end of the same semester (in December). Whether the discussion will take place in person or in distance mode will be decided case by case. 
    The final written work submitted to obtain the Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language may be evaluated as an integral part of the preparation work for a Master’s thesis.

After final acceptance by BLCU, students pay Cattolica International a non-refundable programme fee of €950 (this covers administrative costs, the Student Safety Package and insurance).

Students admitted to the double degree programme at BLCU must pay BLCU tuition fees, in line with the rules set down annually by them. Fees must be paid for each year of attendance plus for the extra semester dedicated to writing their thesis.

  • Chinese language regular course (20 hours a week for 8 weeks): 7,400 RMB
  • Tuition: 25,800 RMB/year
  • Final thesis (tutoring and oral defence): 8,400 RMB
  • On-campus accommodation
    • Single room: 150 RMB/night
    • Double room: 80 RMB/night/person

Students selected for the programme will be responsible for the costs of their stay abroad (flights, meals, academic materials, Chinese health insurance and visa costs).

For the 2025/26 academic year, Cattolica International provides students selected for the double degree programme with scholarships to the value of €1,000 per year of the programme, while funds last. 

All students will be covered by an insurance policy taken out by the University in collaboration with Axa. In addition to this, students will be supplied with a Student Safety Package, which includes a Student Safety Check app providing geolocation and immediate communication in emergency situations. Students selected for the programme will be provided with further information about how to activate the app.

It must be noted that Università Cattolica cannot guarantee departure for students should the international situation or the situation in the destination country not allow for adequate safety during the period abroad.
