The Faculty of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures offers students on the Master’s Degree Programme in Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures the opportunity to gain a double degree qualification at the end of their studies, as follows: 

  • Master’s Degree in Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures – Curriculum: French Literature and Linguistics - Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
  • Master’s Degree in Littérature Philologie Linguistique - Spécialité Langue Française - Université Sorbonne

The exchange will take place over the entire second year of the Master’s Degree programme. Departures are scheduled for September 2024 for the academic year 2024-2025.
 

The offer is reserved for a maximum of three students enrolled in the Master’s Degree Programme in Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures who also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures. By 30 April 2024, interested students must:

  • apply via the relevant call for applications
  • pay the application fee
  • attach a motivational letter in French to their application

Applicants will be called for interview. 

The selection process will be carried out by the academics dealing with the programme (Prof.ssa Sara Cigada and Prof.ssa Marisa Verna) on the basis of the following criteria:

  • 25% undergraduate degree grade
  • 25% number of credits and grade point average of any grades earned in the first year of the Master’s Degree programme
  • 25% motivational letter in French
  • 25% motivational interview during which proficiency in French will be checked (level required: C1)

A provisional merit ranking will be drawn up which will include exams and credits registered in student records by mid-June 2024. Definitive admission to the programme is subject to passing the Strategie comunicative e negoziali della lingua francese exam in the 2023 summer session and 60 credits gained by September 2024.

In line with the current agreements between the two universities, earning the double degree does not involve additional costs over and above the normal university fees at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. However, participating students will be responsible for their travel, food and accommodation expenses.

Students selected for the programme will be provided with information as to whether EU funds for an Erasmus+ contribution are available.

In order to earn a Master’s Degree in Littérature Philologie Linguistique, Spécialité Langue Française, the study programme must be completed within two years. 

Students participating in the programme will prepare their Final Thesis during the period of their exchange, under the coordinated supervision of both institutions (one faculty member from each institution). The Final Thesis will be written either in French or Italian, and accompanied by a summary in the language not used; the thesis will be discussed at Università Cattolica in line with standards and evaluation criteria in use for the September 2024 session.

  • Strategie comunicative e negoziali – Lingua B - 12 credits
  • Letteratura della lingua B - 8 credits
  • Letterature comparate - 8 credits
  • One annual course - 8 credits - from:
    • Storia del teatro e dello spettacolo
    • Storia e linguaggi del cinema internazionale
    • Storia del giornalismo
    • Storia e critica della televisione
    • Storia e linguaggio della pubblicità
    • Drammaturgia
    • Tradizioni letterarie e culturali europee insegnamento
  • One annual course chosen from those suggested by the Faculty - 8 credits
  • One elective semester course (History of the French Language is advised) - 4 credits
2nd year (1st semester) at Université Sorbonne
  • One course - 5 ECTS credits - from:
    • M3LF00ST Conférences de linguistique de l’EA 4504 + M3LF02HE Histoire de l’écrit;
    • M3LF0081 Histoire des grammaires. Grammaires et représentations de la langue XVIIe -XXIe siècles
  • One elective course from those put forward by the French Language UFR (2 hrs per week) - 5 ECTS credits
  • Research project - 12 ECTS credits 
  • One elective French Literature course - 5 ECTS credits 
  • Other foreign language - 3 ECTS credits
2nd year (2nd semester) at Université Sorbonne
  • One elective course from those put forward by the French Language UFR (2 hrs per week) - 5 ECTS credits
  • One elective French Literature course - 5 ECTS credits 
  • Other foreign language - 2 ECTS credits 
  • Mémoire - 18 ECTS 

 

In compliance with Università Cattolica regulations, students who take part in the Double Degree programme are required to take the Theology exams in their study plan.

All participating students will be covered by an insurance policy taken out by the University with Axa.

In addition to this, a "Student Safety Package" will be activated. This package allows for the download of a "Student Safety Check" app which provides for geolocation and immediate communication in an emergency. Further information about how to activate the package will be provided to students selected for the programme.

Università Cattolica will not be able to guarantee the departure of participating students if the international situation or the situation in the destination country does not allow for the period of mobility to be undertaken in safety.
