Graduate Programmes

Students intending to graduate must:
1.    choose a topic, checking the requirements
2.    submit the application for admission to the final examination, verifying the curricular/temporal requirements
3.    deliver the final dissertation in the prescribed manner

The topic of the final examination must be related to a course included in the study plan and the title must be agreed upon with the reference professor.

In order to obtain approval for the topic, it is necessary to contact the professor.

The topic must then be entered on the iCatt personal page (Online Registrar > Final examination) by the deadline indicated in the 'Four-year and Graduate Degree Programme Calls' section of this page.

In order to be able to submit your final examination topic, you must comply with:

  • submission deadlines: at least 8 months before the session. Details in the calendar
  • curricular requirements:
    • graduate/specialistica degree programmes: not expected
    • four-year degree programmes: passing the examination of the second year course in at least one of the two foreign languages (FINAL EXAMINATION) or the first year course in both languages (FIRST ORAL EXAM)

This TOPIC CHOICE FORM should only be used by students enrolled in the Double Degree in European and International Policies with the University of Halle.

Please refer to the Faculty Guide of the Milan and  Brescia campuses for further details on the final examination.

In order to apply for admission to the final examination, you must comply with:

  • submission deadline: at least 45 days before the session. Details in the calendar.

  • curricular requirements for the summer session:
    • graduate/specialistica degree programmes:
      • having no more than 40 ECTS credits in debt for the summer session ("Theology" course and final examination are not included in the count).
    • four-year degree programmes:
      • having no more than three years' debt for the summer session ("Theology" courses are not included in the count).
  • curricular requirements for all other sessions:
    • graduate/specialistica degree programmes:
      • having no more than 20 ECTS credits in debt ("Theology" course and final examination are not included in the count).
    • four-year degree programmes:
      • having no more than two years’ debt ("Theology" courses are not included in the count).

 To apply for admission to the final examination, students must:

  • fill in the application for graduation on your iCatt personal page (Online Registrar > Final examination section);
  • print out the application for graduation form, sign it and affix a €16 stamp duty;
  • obtain approval, by e-mail, from the reference professor/lecturer;
  • print and pay the graduation fee slip;
  • upload the following documents to iCatt in the indicated format:
    • copy of the signed application for graduation with the stamp duty applied (.pdf format)
    • copy of the receipt of payment of the graduation fee slip (.pdf format)
    • copy of the approval email sent by the professor/lecturer (.jpg format) or alternatively the copy of the application for graduation signed by the professor/lecturer.

Any changes to the title of the final dissertation, approved by the professor, must be made at the time the application is completed and printed. The title contained must therefore be definitive, as no further changes can be accepted.

This APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION FORM must only be used by students enrolled in the Double Degree in European and International Policies with the University of Halle.

Procedure in force until the end of the public health emergency related to the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus

The .pdf file of the dissertation must be sent to the professor via the personal iCatt page (Online registrar > Final examination > Submit final dissertation).

Instructions for submitting the dissertation: Submission of the dissertation

Undergraduate students who fail to graduate in the call for which they have applied for admission to the final examination must notify both the professor/supervisor and the Student Services Centre of the relevant seat.
Notification to the Student Services Centre should be made by writing via the iCatt Request for information form under Lessons, Exams and Final Examination > Final Examination.

For a subsequent graduation session, a new application for admission to the final examination must be submitted with a €16 stamp duty and a receipt of payment of the Undergraduate Contribution.

In the event that the professor appointed to chair the commission is unable to do it, as communicated close to the date of the exam, a substitute will be appointed to open the exam call on the scheduled date, avoiding postponement of the call.
In order to reduce the critical situations linked to the excessive proximity or overlap of the date of the end of the exam session (last call) with the date of the start of the graduation session, it will be possible for undergraduates to close their careers (understood as the recording of all exams) within 7 calendar days of the start of the graduation session, i.e. the time required to carry out the checks on the student's career. To this end, the examination calendar will be scheduled so that undergraduate students can take advantage of the profit exam calls as follows

  • Students registered in the summer session (June-July): the first 2 out of 3 calls (or the first call out of 2, where applicable).
  • Students registered in the autumn session (September-October): first call in 2.
  • Students registered in the special session (December-April): the first 2 out of 3 calls (or the first call out of 2, where applicable).

The last call of each session may also be used if the examination is registered within 7 calendar days before the start of the graduation session.

Graduating students will receive the convocation exclusively via their iCatt personal page approximately 10 days before the scheduled graduation date (Online registrar > Final Examination section).

BASIC COUNTING

All grades of the profit examinations multiplied by the number of ECTS credits of each examination are added together.
The sum is divided by the total weight in ECTS credits of the courses considered (average in thirtieths).
The average in thirtieths thus obtained is converted into 110ths by multiplying the value obtained by 11 and dividing it by 3.

FINAL EXAMINATION MARK

The Graduate Degree Programme Graduation Commission may award additional points following its assessment of the originality, completeness and methodological rigour of the dissertation, clarity and correctness of the candidate's exposition and answers to questions. The particular brilliance shown by the candidate may result in the award of honours or an additional point if the maximum score of 110 has not already been achieved.
Additional points may be awarded for supernumerary examinations assessed as pertinent to the programme and not taken into account in determining the basic average mark, honours obtained in profit examinations, international exchange programmes (Erasmus, FPA, etc.), other extra-curricular activities deemed relevant to the characteristics of the degree programme. Non-Italian students may be granted an increase equal to that for experiences abroad for Italian students.
Additional activities deserving recognition may also include the foreign language editing of the thesis.
