Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (English-taught Programme)
The final dissertation represents the concluding academic requirement of the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. It consists of a systematic review of the scientific literature on a topic agreed upon with a supervisor and is intended to demonstrate the student’s ability to apply the knowledge and methodological skills acquired during the programme.

Purpose and Structure of the Final Dissertation
The final dissertation:
•    is based on a systematic exploration of the scientific literature
•    is developed under the guidance of:
    -  a Supervisor, responsible for the scientific content and topic definition
    -  a Tutor, different from the supervisor, who supports students in learning how to search, analyze, and synthesize scientific literature
•    Follows the instructions provided in the Final Dissertation Syllabus

Students intending to graduate must:

  • choose keyword/supervising professor
  • submit the application for admission to the final examination, verifying the curricular/temporal requirements
  • submit your final dissertation in .pdf format via your iCatt personal page

At specific points during the academic year, the Program Director will contact third-year students to initiate the dissertation process:
•    End of February → for students aiming to graduate in July
•    April → for students aiming to graduate in September
•    September → for students aiming to graduate in December or March
The communication will include instructions and access to the area-selection form.

Step-by-Step Procedure
Step 1Selection of the Area of Interest
Students must select the area(s) in which they wish to conduct their dissertation by completing the online form provided in the official communication.
•    The form will be available for a limited time
•    Deadlines will be clearly indicated in the email sent by the Program Director

Step 2Assignment of the Supervisor
After the submission deadline:
•    Students will receive confirmation of their assigned Supervisor
•    Students are expected to contact the Supervisor directly to define and finalize the dissertation topic

Step 3 – Tutor Assignment and Group Sessions
•    Each student will be assigned a Tutor
•    Tutors will contact students to schedule group meetings, which focus on:
                  - literature search strategies
                  - critical reading of scientific papers
                  - synthesis and academic writing
•    All subsequent deadlines related to the dissertation process will be communicated by the Tutors

Honors Track Students
Students enrolled in the Honors Track (HT) should note the following:
•    Attendance at tutor group meetings is not compulsory, although participation is allowed
•    The final dissertation may be developed within the Honors Track programme
•    Honors Track students should not complete the area-selection form, unless they choose to write their dissertation outside the HT programme.

Students intending to graduate must select one or more Keywords. The link will be provided by email.

Eligibility requirements to select the Topic:

  • Enrollment in at least the third year
  • At least 116 ECTS credits registered (supernumerary examinations are excluded)

To apply for admission to the final examination, students must comply with the following:
Submission deadline:
•    At least 45 days before the graduation session

Curricular Requirements

Summer session (July):
•    No more than 40 ECTS credits in debt, excluding:
          - Theology courses
          - Final dissertation
•    Exception:
           - Third-year students with up to 50 ECTS credits in debt (excluding the final examination) may apply only if all first- and second-year exams have been completed (Theology courses are excluded from the count)

All other sessions (September, December, March):
•    No more than 30 ECTS credits in debt, excluding:
           - Theology courses
           - Final dissertation

The .pdf file of the dissertation must be sent to the professor via the iCatt personal page (Online registrar > Final examination > Submit final dissertation).

The dissertation must be uploaded to the iCatt personal page no later than 10 days before the start date of the proclamation sessions (see calendar).

In the event that the professor appointed to chair the commission is unable to do it, as communicated close to the date of the exam, a substitute will be appointed to open the exam call on the scheduled date, avoiding postponement of the call.

In order to reduce the critical situations linked to the excessive proximity or overlap of the date of the end of the exam session (last call) with the date of the start of the graduation session, it will be possible for undergraduates to close their careers (understood as the recording of all exams) within 7 calendar days of the start of the graduation session, i.e. the time required to carry out the checks on the student's career. To this end, the examination calendar will be scheduled so that undergraduate students can take advantage of the profit exam calls as follows

Students registered in the summer session (June-July): the first 2 out of 3 calls (or the first call out of 2, where applicable).

Students registered in the autumn session (September-October): first call in 2.

Students registered in the special session (December-April): the first 2 out of 3 calls (or the first call out of 2, where applicable).

The last call of each session may also be used if the examination is registered within 7 calendar days before the start of the graduation session.

Undergraduate students who fail to graduate in the call for which they have applied for admission to the final examination must notify both the professor/supervisor and the Student Services Centre of the relevant seat.
Notification to the Student Services Centre should be made by writing via the iCatt Request for information form under Lessons, Exams and Final Examination > Final Examination.

For a subsequent graduation session, a new application for admission to the final examination must be submitted with a €16 stamp duty and a receipt of payment of the Undergraduate Contribution.

Graduating students will receive the convocation exclusively via their iCatt personal page approximately 10 days before the scheduled graduation date (Online registrar > Final Examination section).

The following criteria are applied for the calculation of the final mark:

BASIC COUNTING

All the marks of the profit examinations taken are added together (including any supernumeraries from the Faculty of Psychology, excluding 'Theology' examinations).
30 cum laude is counted as 31.
The sum is divided by the number of examinations considered (average in thirtieths).
The average in thirtieths thus obtained is converted into 110ths by multiplying the value obtained by 11 and dividing it by 3. The mark in 110ths is multiplied by a coefficient of 1.03725.
For students enrolled since the a.y. 2020/21 and who will graduate from the 2022/23 summer session
All marks of the profit examinations multiplied by the number of ECTS credits of each examination are added together.
(including any supernumeraries from the Faculty of Psychology, excluding 'Theology' examinations).
30 cum laude is counted as 31.
The sum is divided by the total weight in ECTS credits of the courses considered (average in thirtieths).
The average in thirtieths thus obtained is converted into 110ths by multiplying the value obtained by 11 and dividing it by 3. The mark in 110ths is multiplied by a coefficient of 1.03725.
