Elective Observership Program at Thomas Jefferson University – Call for Applications (March–May 2026)

 

The Elective Observership Program at Thomas Jefferson University – Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) offers students enrolled in the Medicine and Surgery degree program the opportunity to undertake 4-weeks internships in a clinical department at SKMC.

All students in the Clinical Years are eligible. Should the number of requests exceed available capacity, priority will be granted to senior students enrolled in the Medicine & Surgery programme.

Placements will take place between March and May 2026.

Students must indicate at least three preferred clinical departments/divisions.

Please note that it will not be possible to select the month of attendance, as this will depend on the availability of the various departments at SKMC.

Step 1: Download and complete the Excel Placement Form
Fill in three preferred clinical departments/divisions.
Save the file and upload it as part of your online application

 

Step 2: Submit your online application
Access your personal iCatt page and go to:
Services and opportunities > International mobility > Mobility calls > Accordi bilaterali > Electives Observership Thomas Jefferson University
Upload the completed Excel Placement Preference Form before the deadline.
 

Step 3: Pay the € 2.250 program fee by the application deadline.

The programme fee confirms your participation and allows Thomas Jefferson University to begin the placement search process.

Should a suitable placement not be found, the entire fee will be refunded.
 

After the deadline, Cattolica International will review all submitted forms and forward the information to Thomas Jefferson University – SKMC to begin the placement matching process.

  • €2,250 program fee, which includes:
    • Clinical placement coordination
    • Student Safety Package (insurance + emergency app activation)
  • Not included: travel, visa, accommodation, and meals
     

Scholarships of €550 per month are available and are provided in the form of a reimbursement; therefore, proof of expenses must be uploaded upon return.

Your programme application also serves as your scholarship application, and no separate submission is required.
 

Students may apply to have the program recognized as Clinical/Research electives.
The academic recognition form must be completed and submitted to the International Office upon completion of the observership.
 

Included in the programme is the activation of the Student Safety Package, which includes: 

  • Insurance coverage valid for the entire length of the programme abroad.
  • Activation of the Student Safety app, which helps manage emergencies

Please note: Medical Malpractice/Professional Liability Insurance is not included and must be purchased separately if required by the host institution.
