The entire area covers nearly 5.5 million acres of unfenced land, where animals roam freely across the savannah.

Volunteers will stay in a private lodge located within the Mtimkulu Private Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger area, nestled in the heart of the African savanna. The accommodation combines spacious safari tents and shared dormitories, offering an authentic yet comfortable bush experience.

The camp is designed as a research base, created not only to provide comfort but also to encourage learning and community living. Facilities include shared bathrooms with showers and toilets, an outdoor fire pit for “braais” (traditional South African barbecues), communal relaxation areas, and a shared dining space where volunteers can enjoy meals and exchange stories from their day. The lodge offers free Wi-Fi, though the connection can be variable. Volunteers can purchase a local SIM card (MTN recommended) to stay connected. The property also features a swimming pool and an outdoor area ideal for stargazing and socializing after daily activities.

Two meals per day and a self-service breakfast are provided from Monday to Friday, while no meals are included on weekends. All meals are prepared with fresh ingredients and adapted to life in the reserve.

There are 100 scholarships of €450 available.

Available Projects

Projects dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and flora within the Greater Kruger reserve, one of the most diverse and spectacular natural areas on the continent. Volunteers work alongside experienced guides and researchers in the protection of the “Big Five” – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes – contributing to data collection and the monitoring of animals.

The activities include:

  • Day and night research safaris to observe and record animal behaviour in their natural habitat;
  • Compilation of identification profiles, maps, and databases for the long-term monitoring of species;
  • Active conservation work, such as the removal of invasive plants, restoration of degraded areas, and anti-poaching initiatives to protect the most vulnerable species.

The project combines scientific research and hands-on action, offering an immersive experience in the savannah. During weekends, volunteers can explore the region and share this adventure with an international team of experts and nature enthusiasts, making a tangible contribution to the preservation of African ecosystems and wildlife.
