Boston University – Interactive Marketing Communication, Public Relations and Events Management

The three‑week programme focuses on three main thematic areas: Integrated Marketing Communication (25 hours), Event Planning and Promotion (25 hours) and Presentation Skills (25 hours).

Attendance at all three courses is compulsory.

Participants will learn strategies and techniques aimed at customer engagement, the key role of events in Public Relations and the importance of speaking persuasively and convincingly through the analysis of public speaking techniques.

The specialised programme is intended for students of the Faculties listed below, but is also accessible to students from other Faculties.

  • Economics and Interfaculty
  • Interfaculty Letters/Economics/Political and Social Sciences
  • Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures
  • Political and Social Sciences – recommended for curricula in Communication Sciences or Public Communication
  • Psychology, recommended for the Organisation and Marketing curriculum

In addition to academic activities, two weekend excursions are planned, participation in which is optional.

For students enrolled in the Faculties listed above, the approved Cattolica courses have already been identified. 

Students are still required to submit a request for credit recognition (CFU) according to the procedures established by their Faculty.

Faculty of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literatures

Bachelor’s Degree

  • Economics and Business Communication Techniques (8 credits) or 4 credits of Elective Activities
  • for Languages for Enterprise and for Linguistic Sciences for International Relations: intermediate oral test of English 3 + English Language 3 examination (Language and professional communication) (9 credits)
  • for other profiles: intermediate oral test of English 3 + 4 credits of Elective Activities 

Master’s Degree

  • International Communication (8 credits) or 4 credits of Training Activities

 

Faculty of Economics

Bachelor’s Degree

  • Economics and Business Communication Technique

Master’s Degree

  • Business Communication


Faculty of Arts and Philosophy

LIMED and CIMO

  • recognition of a Cattolica exam among the “electives” worth 6 or 8 credits

Faculty of Psychology

  • recognition of a Cattolica exam among the “electives” worth 8 credits

Consult the list of accepted certificates and the corresponding scores. Only the following certificates obtained from May 2024 onwards are accepted:

  • B2 First minimum 160
  • TOEFL iBT, minimum 65
  • IELTS, minimum 5.5
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) minimum 100

If you do not have one of the listed certificates, you can take Cattolica International’s English language test. 

Note

  • During the online application you can select the date to take the test; it is recommended to take the test on the first available date to avoid the risk that there are no places left.
  • The test will take place online, and you can book it directly during the application. You will receive the Zoom link by email by the day before the session.
  • The test can be taken only once
  • If you have already taken the Cattolica International internal test for other programmes abroad (from May 2024 onwards) with a sufficient score, you can choose not to take it again and keep the previous result.  You will need to indicate in the online application the date on which the test was taken.

Students who are attending a Cattolica degree course delivered entirely in English can access the programme by attaching a self‑certification of enrolment in the degree course.

  • For the purposes of the ranking for the award of scholarships, a B2.2 score will automatically be assigned.

Students will stay at the on‑campus college at 610 Beacon Street (university dormitory).

The programme cost includes:

  • orientation and support during enrolment for courses at Boston University
  • assistance prior to departure
  • insurance and Student Safety Package
  • assistance upon return with regard to the procedures for recording foreign exam results
  • enrolment and attendance on the 3 courses
  • official certificate of attendance, with exam grades
  • learning materials
  • accommodation in a double room
  • board (19 meals)
  • welcome reception and farewell dinner
  • site visits
  • self‑assessment session on return “Welcome Back: unpack your experience!” organised by Cattolica International 

The following are not included in the programme cost:

  • return flight 
  • costs for ESTA authorisation, $40 / costs for any visa issuance 
  • two optional trips to New York City and/or Martha’s Vineyard 
  • anything not expressly specified 

Excursions:

Once the number of participants in the programme has been confirmed, students will be able to take part in two excursions organised at the weekends:

  • a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard
  • a weekend in New York City

Participation is optional and the costs will be communicated after enrolment has closed

 

Scholarships

Cattolica provides 22 scholarships each worth € 1,200

  • Please note that the scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and paid in the form of reimbursement.
  • To apply, it is sufficient to enrol in the programme; no specific application is required.
  • When scholarships are awarded, priority will be given to students and then to recent graduates.
  • For students with qualifications not awarded in Italy, in the absence of a grade conversion already recorded in their record at the Università Cattolica, a score of 80/100 will be assigned for the school leaving grade and 90/110 for the Bachelor’s degree. No further or different methods of recognition of the grades obtained are permitted.

Selected students must apply for the ESTA (visa for the USA) 

Students of nationalities other than Italian must check whether they are eligible for the ESTA. If they are not eligible, they must notify Cattolica International, which will verify with Boston University the type of visa to be requested.

The application for the ESTA (or other visa) may be submitted only after admission to the courses. Further information will be provided after registration closes.

You must have a valid passport. If you do not have one, you must apply for it as soon as possible.
